DIY Bouquet on a Budget

Whether you’re going to a dinner party or just in need of a good mothers day gift, flowers are always a good choice! Unfortunately pre-arranged bouquets tend to either be very expensive, or cheap and lackluster. Whole Foods does have some gorgeous flowers, but they too can be on the pricey side. So if you’re on a tight budget with a florists’ taste your best bet is putting together your own bouquet. This is super duper easy, and actually really fun if you ask me! And this is a great trick for boyfriends to pick up too! What could be better than a personalized gorgeous bouquet of flowers?!?

DIY Bouquet

Here’s what you’re going to need to do to get started… first, go to your local grocery store, I prefer purchasing flowers for my own arrangements at wholesale florists or just plain affordable florists, but those are hard to come by in Uptown New Orleans so grocery store flowers will just have to do! Steer clear of the pre-arranged bouquets and check out the basic flower bundles. I recommend getting at least 3 different types of flowers to give the bouquet some diversity. Winn Dixie is currently selling 3 bundles for $10, a steal for a floral bouquet!

Materials:

  • 3 bundles of flowers
  • Scissors
  • 1 Jar
  • Ribbon

Step 1: Remove rubber bands & plastic wrap and combine all of the flowers into one large bundle. Then tie 3 rubber bands around the base of the bouquet; this will help you avoid any mess while cutting the bottom stems off.

Step 2: Carefully cut your flowers to fit the size vase you would like to use. To use a jar for your vase first remove the label by soaking it in hot, soapy water for 5 minutes. Then tie twine or ribbon around the jar to spruce it up a bit.

Step 3: Add the water & plant food and begin filling the vase with flowers (alternating colors to give the bouquet a professional look).

So the next time you are scrambling to find an attractive bouquet look no further than your neighborhood grocery store! Stay tuned for more handmade bouquets in the future and many more DIY tutorials!!!
