Whether you’re celebrating a 5 year olds’ birthday or a 45 year olds’, mouthwatering rainbow cupcakes are always a good idea! And I’m not just talking about cupcakes with rainbow sprinkles, or even colorful frosting, I mean Tie-Dye cupcakes! This is basically the coolest thing you can do with a box of Duncan Hines, and it is so easy!
All you need is cake mix, eggs, oil, water, food coloring, frosting, and sprinkles. I used yellow cake (because its my favorite) but angel food cake would probably pick up the color of the dye better. After you make the batter simply separate it into 4 equal portions. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and stir away.
Once you have your red, green, yellow, and blue batter pour a little of each color in every cupcake liner till you’ve filled them all to the top. Then simply bake and prepare to be amazed by their festive look!
While they’re baking, dye the frosting festive colors to match. I always try to make my frosting interesting colors like periwinkle, teal, and lime, but you can stick to the normal colors too! Once the cupcakes have cooled, frost away… And don’t forget the sprinkles!
